Get ready for some perspective-flipping news!

A few years ago McDonald’s decided to turn their golden arches upside down in honor of International Women’s Day and it shocked customers. This annual celebration, recognized on March 8th, commemorates the achievements of women in the social, cultural, political, and economic spheres.

McDonald’s creative move wasn’t just a symbolic gesture – it was also a call to action to accelerate gender equality. But if you were driving past their Lynwood, CA location, you might have done a double-take at the sight of their flipped arches!

As we rubbed the sleep out of our eyes and reached for our phones, the last thing we expected to see on our Facebook feeds was a mind-bending post that seemed to defy the laws of reality.

Was it a glitch in the Matrix? Was this a Black Mirror episode that came to life?

Despite what our paranoid brains had led us to believe, the truth was far less sinister. At the time, we had our tin foil hats on.

McDonald’s had done something unprecedented. No, it wasn’t a McRib comeback, it was something much more surprising.

The fast-food giant’s iconic golden arches logo, which has been the same for decades, was flipped upside down, transforming into a massive bubbly “W.”

You might have thought it was part of their ongoing feud with Wendy’s, or maybe a sign of the apocalypse, but it was actually a bold move made by the chain in “celebration of women everywhere.”

Yup, McDonald’s, known for their Big Macs and fries, took a stand for gender equality.

If you were in the area on March 8, 2018, you might have seen McDonald’s flipping the script for International Women’s Day, literally.

Not only did the fast-food giant flip its iconic golden arches logo upside down, forming an attention-grabbing “W” shape, but they also took it even further.

The stunt wasn’t limited to just the Lynwood, CA store where the sign was flipped; the company went all in, displaying the flipped logo across its social media accounts and even having employees don shirts and hats featuring the new design. Special packaging featuring the logo was also rolled out in 100 stores across the country.

McDonald’s made history on International Women’s Day by doing something they had never done before.

According to McDonald’s Chief Diversity Officer, Wendy Lewis, the move was made to celebrate the incredible achievements of women around the world, as well as those working within the company.

“We wanted to honor the vital roles that women play at all levels of McDonald’s,” Lewis said in a statement to the food site Delish. It was a bold and impactful statement that left an impression on people everywhere.

However, McDonald’s wasn’t the only company to take a stand that month.

Johnnie Walker released a ‘Jane Walker’ bottle, and Brawny replaced their iconic lumberjack with fierce women as part of their ‘Strength Knows No Gender’ campaign.

They also donated a portion of their profits to organizations that benefit women.
